Comparable Worth: A Smoldering Issue is Ready to Burn Once More
Article Abstract:
Women are fighting for equal pay for work of comparable worth. Equal pay for equal work is considered meaningless in most cases because women and men rarely perform the same job. Opponents believe there might be excessive federal regulation and interference. Legal and judicial interpretation has varied since the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Some experts feel that the United States Supreme Court has already ruled in favor of comparable worth. Suits have been won in both the public and private sectors. The National Committee on Pay Equity is working to change state laws, and many labor unions have given them support. Developing systems for comparable worth evaluation is difficult and possibly expensive. A table of criteria for evaluating jobs is included.

Did Lans Catch PC Message?
Article Abstract:
Despite their cost, personal computers are becoming prevalent in businesses. LANs will also increase as it becomes easier to hook up different companies' systems. More companies are diversifying their computer equipment instead of purchasing their systems from a single producer. However, it will be necessary to develop standards for LANs.
