Getting Choosy About OA Equipment
Article Abstract:
With 1200 or more vendors supplying 50,000 products in the office automation field, making a choice can be a problem. Carefully following the guidelines presented by Dan Rosenberg can put the odds in the buyer's favor. After committing the resources, eight steps in defining the requirements are outlined, including where and how to obtain the necessary information and what to avoid while doing it. Submitting a Request for Proposal (RFP), and asking vendors' solutions to the business objective, require several considerations. After negotiating the response period, critical evaluation of vendors' proposals can be enhanced by procedures for comparing data and summarizing differences. Negotiating a favorable contract requires incorporating the RFP and getting legal advice, among other suggestions. A flow chart of the basic steps is shown.
