Several new products are covered. Turnkey Information Processing Inc. is marketing the Alien Text Information System, software that eliminates the compatibility problem with word processors. The system uses modules for particular makes of word processors that can link together equipment and allow transmission and editing of data. The Mercurion I is a printer using deposition imagining. It prints on eight and a half by eleven paper, is plug compatible and works in far processing actions. Gandalf has announced PACXNET, a data communications network. It can operate with telephone lines already in place, and can handle 1,536 devices with modems, circuits or multiplex. Seiko has announced the D-scan 5201 color hard copy output device. It prints eight colors using thermal image transfer technology. Drawings are included.

Several new products are reviewed. The Private Network Exchange (PNX), developed by Ztel, is an integrated system which combines a branch exchange and a local area network. It uses token ring LAN architecture. Wordplex's 80-4-ET is an electronic typewriter network that can hook up eight typewriters for document storage. The company's 80-40xc File Manager links word processors with telephone voice-grade cable. Four central servers are available. TO-5000 optical character reader, made by Totec Co. Ltd., can read six fonts without manual switching. Both bisynchronous and asynchronous communications are available. Diagrams of the systems are included.

Three new products are reviewed. Exxon's 965 Ink Jet Printer can print on a variety of papers with scientific and international fonts. It uses non-volatile ink which is absorbed quickly, and the machine does not need a pump. A diagram is included. NBI has combined secretarial and clerical functions in its SYSTEM ONE SERIES, which includes workstations and word processors. It can also hook up to an IBM personal computer. The system has NBI NET, a local area network. A flow chart is included. Minolta has developed a Stereo Photocopy System for Braille and raised relief maps. It uses microcapsules to achieve the relief. A drawing is included.
