Writing tools for Web pages
Article Abstract:
Seven HyperText Markup Language (HTML) editors give users the ability to easily create World Wide Web pages. None of the programs reviewed scored the highest rating available, but Microsoft's Internet Assistant, a free Word add-on, delivers the most capabilities of any HTML editor. The add-on change Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows into an HTML editor and basic Web browser. It provides templates, and a Web Edit mode to interpret documents as HTML files. HTML tags can be viewed or hidden, and all of the Word editing commands can be used on the HTML document. Several editors are available as shareware, including HTML Pro, a $5 Macintosh product created by Niklas Frykholm. HTML Pro includes a bidirectional WYSIWYG editor, and users can type in HTML into a source window and view the results immediately. SoftQuad's $195 HoTMetaL Pro, for Windows and Mac, includes a built-in browser and can check HTML statements for proper form and balance.

I'm on the list
Article Abstract:
It is better to submit a Web site to Internet search engines than to wait for them to find the site. Although some Web indexes actively search out Web sites, nearly all of them provide a means of submitting a listing. There are also a number of submission services which will get a Web site listed on search sites and announcement lists. The advantage of submitting the listing to individual search engines is that it provides the site's developer with the opportunity to suggest or specify terms to be used to index the site. And some systems use the "Robot Exclusion Protocol" to make robots skip a given system, preventing automated indexing of sites on that system. Whatever method of getting a site listed, the listing should be checked regularly to ensure that it is still accurate.
