Boatbuilding family goes back to the basics
Article Abstract:
Charleston, SC-based Sea Fox Boats is owned by third-generation Renkens whose grandfather, Walter Renken, started the family boatbuilding heritage in the 1950s. Fred and his brother Ed Renken founded their own company, called Legacy Boats, when their father, Carl, sold Renken Boats in 1995. They have changed the company's name to Sea Fox Boats due to a trademark dispute with Legacy Yachts. The company built 80 boats in 1995 and 1,300 in 1999, representing a 1,625% unit growth and 2,471% sales growth.
