FedEx debuts global trade services firm

Federal Express Corp plans to create FedEx Trade Networks Inc, an independent subsidiary that will provide customs and trade services, trade information, international logistics and freight-forwarding services. In line with this, Memphis, TN-based Federal Express plans to acquire Tower Group International and make it a subsidiary of FedEx Trade Networks. G. Edmond Clark, a former senior VP at Federal Express, will be the president and CEO of the new company.

Britain's Royal Mail eyes U.S. to expand global operations

Royal Mail of the UK, has bared a five-year plan to establish its presence in the United States and venture into the emerging interest surrounding exporting by US firms. The strategy focuses on Royal Mail U.S. Inc. (RMUS), a division that mails First Class and advertising letter mail from the US internationally. RMUS has had operations in the US since 1994, with a staff of 25 working in New York. Meanwhile, the five-year plan also include investing in the operation side of RMUS to boost product offerings, investing in research and setting up nine US sales centers. Royal Mail has contracted OgilvyOne of New York to create an awareness campaign on its plans.
