SmartReminders to start Chinese edition

SmartReminders.com, an e-mail marketer based in Nashville, TN, has entered into a partnership with etang.com, a Web portal in Shanghai, China to create a Chinese version of the SmartReminders service. The deal, which was signed in Jun, 2000, calls for SmartReminders to deliver e-mail reminders and messages to etang.com's subscribers. etang.com, which was launched in Nov 1999, will translate SmartReminders' content into Chinese language. MD Helicopters will conduct a demonstration tour of its NOTAR- equipped MD600N and MD902 Explorer helicopters in South America.

Mail Abuse Prevention System LLC (MAPS) was sued by Internet research firm Harris Interactive shortly after agreeing with yesmail.com on a new standard for double optin subscriptions. Harris Interactive has accused anti-spam watchdog groups and Internet service providers with restraint of trade by hindering its ability to send e-mail to its users. Harris charges that ISPs wrongly suspendended its ability to send e-mails due to its inclusion on MAPS' Realtime Blackhole list.

Dot-coms spend $640M on print ads

Dot-com advertisers have spent around $640 million in magazines for the first six months of 2000. The figure is four times the amount spent during the same period in 1999, according to a study made by the Magazine Publishers of America. The print ad expenditures were broken down into web site categories such as apparel, retail and technology. The most money spent on advertising in print magazines was made by the retail and media categories.
