Article Abstract:
The UK construction industry is being negatively affected by overcapacity and underprofitability, according to Mark Aedy, managing director of a division of US finance group Bankers Trust. He believes that it is now time to undertake structural change in the construction and building materials industries. He feels that UK contractors have been misguided in adhering to old-fashioned notions of independence and are still facing barriers to rationalization, including having negative net assets and being vulnerable to losing key employees.
