Harte-Hanks enjoys booming service business in Brazil

Harte-Hanks do Brasil, a direct marketing services provider, has seen its business grow as Brazil's economic crisis forces companies to outsource their marketing operations. Company CEO Silvio Ramos said Brazilian companies are finding that outsourcing their direct marketing operations costs one-third to one-half the cost of maitaining an in-house staff. Ramos also expressed optmism for the prospects of the Brazilian economy, saying the nation of 160 million people has nowhere to go but up.

DMA, McNutt battle on trade missions

International Direct Marketing Consultants' Bill McNutt is complaining about the way the Direct Marketing Assn (DMA) is competing with the company. He believes that the DMA's trade mission to the UK and France in Mar 2001, is a direct challenge to his company which has been running suc missions for more than a decade. DMA's international VP Charles Prescott dismissed the allegation by saying that the association is not out to damage McNutt's business.

Experts agree Mexican DM is on the rise

Direct marketers in the US are trooping down to Mexico as the Mexican economy stages a surprising recovery. The economy grew by 5% in 1998, confounding observers who predicted a recession. Direct marketers, as a result, are securing more business from companies which have earlier established operations in the country despite the dire predictions. These companies include MCI, California Commerce Bank and Seton Nameplate.
