Is USPS planning a 2nd rate case?
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service (USPS) plans another rate hike, although the present rate case has not been completed, according to mailers. The mailers said postal officials are predicting a deficit in FY 2001. However, USPS CFO Richard Strasser denied the reports, saying it would be premature to begin planning another rate increase. With the completion of the testimony phase of the present rate case, the Postal Rate Commission is expected to present its recommendation to the USPS' Board of Governors on or around Nov 10, 2000.

USPS Board calls for another rate hhike in '02
Article Abstract:
The US Postal Service Board of Governors in Feb 2001 decided that the agency must start preparing a new rate case to secure its financial future. While the amount of a potential rise was not clear, insiders predict that it will be much more than the 4.6% average increase in January and that it will take place in summer 2001. In FY 2000, the USPS sustained a deficit of nearly $200 million, and it forecasts a deficit of $480 million in FY 2001.
