Large builder develops strategy to make infill housing Profitable

Lewis Homes specializes in developing infill housing. They take the time to conduct market research to establish for that particular type of housing project and proceed according to the study's results. Their Ladera Heights community in Los Angeles, CA, illustrates their strategy and although conditions seemed unfavorable due to Southern California's depressed housing market, the project has been successful in generating sales of 25 out of 30 units between Nov 1992 to Mar 1993. They designed houses which would look very up-to-date and obscure its surrounding neighborhood.

The Heritage Cos, which focuses on affordable housing, has explored this business opportunity by catering to people with incomes 60% below an area's average income and has developed a positive public image in the process.
