Executives from Latin American Internet companies speaking at a panel session during an international conference in New York, NY, in Jun 2000 agreed that e-commerce in Latin America is booming with start-ups popping daily in major markets. However, they are also unsure how the recent plunge in high technology stocks would affect Latin American dot-coms. The conference, which featured 140 speakers and attended by 1,300 visitors, focused on the global aspects of the Internet.

Espuelos expects strong Internet growth in Latin America

Star Media CEO Fernando J. Espuelos said in his keynote address at the international network 2000 conference in New York, NY, in early Jun that Latin America is one of the world's fastest growing Internent market. He also stressed that 10% of all foreign investments poured into the region went to Web-based businesses and that the Internet has even helped stabilized the political environment Latin America.

Strong gains for French Web market

Internet use in France in 2000, grew rapidly across a wide spectrum from customer relationship management applications to banner advertising but was stymied by a continued reluctance to buy online. PricewaterhouseCoopers conducted its third study on the state of Internet advertising in France and found revenue reached 1.2 billion francs, or $163.4 million, up 134% over 1999 totals.
