Mailing Online may get board's OK

The market testing of Mailing Online, the new service created by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) that allows mailers to create and introduce computer-created messages into the postal system, is expected to be approved by the board of governors of the USPS. The three-month trial could be launched in New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; and Boston, MA; with test sites in Hartford, CT; and Tampa, FL. Users of Mailing Online would be charged postage and a fee for production plus other pre-mailing services.Vetscom Massachusetts of Woburn, MA, a mailing services company, has been contracted by USPS to help in the market test.

FedEx, UPS focus on international arena

Federal Express, the Memphis, TN-based division of FDX Corp., and the United Parcel Service of Atlanta, GA, have made separate announcements that are aimed to strengthen their international presence. On September 1999, FedEx is set to launch a new service, called FedEx InternationalNext Flight, that allows US customers ship packages to over 150 countries in less time that its current service. USPS, meanwhile, will offer a money-back guarantee on all ground delivery from the United States to Canada sent through UPS standard service.
