Mather's South Bank masterplan unveiled
Article Abstract:
The design proposed by architect Rick Mather for the redevelopment of the South Bank Centre in London, England, is based around a large new park constructed on a large site currently occupied by Jubilee Gardens and Hungerford Car Park. Under the park, there would be a 1,100-seat concert hall, a multiplex cinema, a film centre and parking for 380 cars. Mather also recommends the demolition of the existing elevated walkways, replacing them with a narrow bridge connecting Waterloo Bridge with the raised terrace in front of the Royal Festival Hall. Development will be in three stages, with completion due in 2007.

The houses have been built on a fairly small plot which addresses the issue of land use and energy conservation. Other aspects of the dwellings include computer controlled systems, access for disabled people and imaginative use of natural materials.
