Senate leadership change shifts postal, privacy focus
Article Abstract:
A Democratic majority in the Senate is expected to lead to more privacy initiatives. Such a change would be possible if the chairmanship of the Senate Commerce Committee would go from John McCain to ranking Democrat Ernest Hollings. The latter had previously proposed legislation that would give more data privacy to Internet users, something that was opposed by numerous business groups. Changes would also take place in the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees financial privacy.
