Toner marketer settles FTC 'toner-phoner' charges

Modern Concept Marketing has agreed to pay $2 million to settle the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charges that it violated the Telemarketing Sales Rule in its marketing of laser-printer toner cartidges. The FTC accused the Reseda, CA-based company of committing 'toner-phoner'fraud when it used its telemarketers to misrepresent to consumers that its products were new Hewlett-Packard and IBM/Lexmark products.
