What's next for struggling OMC?
Article Abstract:
Outboard Marine Corp (OMC), the US' second-largest boat and engine builder, is experiencing severe cash flow problem and has, in fact, posted a net loss of $59.5 million for the sixth month period ended Jun 30, 2000. The company has admitted in its filing with the federal Securities Commission that it could run out of money by the end of 2000 and be forced to stage what would amount to a fire sale of some of its nonstrategic assets. Many believe that the boatbuilder's survival depends on billionaire investor George Soros and his willingness to again infuse capital into the financially struggling OMC. Previously, Soros and his group have invested a total of $393 million in the company.
