How green is your local authority?
Article Abstract:
Local authorities are required by law to undertake a number of environmental duties, but financial constraints sometimes force such issues down the agenda. Some authorities are finding that local campaigners are forcing them to consider environmental policy when making decisions. An environmental audit is believed by many experts to be the first step towards formulating environmental measures. Lists of useful environmental organisations and government bodies are presented.

How green are you?
Article Abstract:
It is important that everybody plays their part in taking care on the environment. This includes reducing use of energy, water and cars, recycling waste, and buying in food in containers which can be recycled. Five families took part in a two month experiment, during which it was found that water usage fell and waste recycling rose, but it was generally thought that organic vegetables were expensive as were low-energy light bulbs.

How green is your shopping?
Article Abstract:
The British government's Green Claims Code was launched in 1998 to advise manufacturers on making 'green' claims in advertising and on packaging and help avoid misleading statements such as 'environmentally friendly'. Industry also benefits from a number of labelling schemes such as the Forest Stewardship Council, which identifies wood and wood products from well-managed forests.
