It is quite common for credit card issuers, high street banks and building societies to disguise the full cost of borrowing. Unclear statements make it very hard for the borrower to find out exactly how much is being charged. Some credit card companies charge customers who go over their credit limit, for example, while others charge interest if a previous month's bill is not repaid in full. There can be hidden costs associated with mortgages with low fixed or discounted rates, while banks often charge overdraft fees.
