Subsidence history, gravity anomalies, and flexure of the northeast Australian margin in Papua New Guinea
Article Abstract:
The foreland basin of the Papua New Guinea orgogenic belt has been modeled using gravity and well data. A former passive margin is revealed that may have experienced major orogenic loading events, one of which occurred near the Miocene-Oligocene boundary, and was linked with widespread carbonated deposition over the existing shelf and evolving basin. A second event is thought to be linked to the start of the main stage of uplift at the beginning of the Pliocene.

Numerical modeling of simultaneous extension and compression: The Valencia trough
Article Abstract:
The geodynamic evolution of the Valencia trough has been investigated using a two-dimensional kinematic model, incorporating lateral accommodation of extension and differential stretching. Model predictions were compared with tectonic subsidence observations, surface heat flow, Bouguer gravity anomaly and current crustal structure. Three stages of evolution are assumed, placing further constraints on the geodynamic evolution of the area.
