Coal: They're in the Ring, but How Hard Will They Fight?
Article Abstract:
The British National Coal Board (NCB) plans to close twenty mines, resulting in the loss of 20,000 jobs, in 1984-85. Leaders of the National Union of Mineworkers are protesting and unions in Yorkshire and Scotland have voted to strike. It is questionable whether other union miners will support these strikes. The NCB will need additional government grants in order to complete restructuring plans.
