Developing the retail base: the case of Glendale, Arizona
Article Abstract:
Glendale, AZ, adopted the Retail Opportunity Analysis Reports (ROAR) and FAST FAX sales tax maximization programs in an effort to attract more retail investments into the city. Both the ROAR and FAST FAX programs have given the city a strong pro-business image while facilitating two-way communication with decision makers in the site selection process. A brief overview of the two programs is presented.

Making a community retail ready: the town of Markham, Ontario experience
Article Abstract:
The Markham, Ontario, town council decided to overhaul its retail policies after realizing that these hindered the town's ability to cope with the emerging retail environment. By analyzing existing retail activities, re-examining the effectiveness of its policies and crafting new, more retail-friendly policies, the municipality was able to make itself more receptive to modern retailing operations.
