Doing business in post-sanctions Iraq
Article Abstract:
US firms are likely to encounter difficulties in establishing business relations with Iraq due to the presence of some limiting factors. Specifications, legal systems and procedures may tend to favor European firms over American companies because Iran may adopt free-market ideas from the European community. In addition, any business transactions offered to Iran must be backed with political deals as it tries to resist any structural changes coming from the US. On the other hand, Iran would have to allocate huge amounts of money from oil exportation for repair and improvement spendings.

The United Nations adopted a resolution on Nov 11, 1993, that calls for the imposition of sanctions against Libya. The UN Security Council Resolution No. 883, which took effect on Dec 1, 1993, requires all member countries to freeze funds and financial resources that have something to do with Libya. It also restricts member countries to create provisions that would allow the inflow of equipment, supplies and grants of licensing arrangements to Libya.
