Economic crises: evidence and insights from East Asia
Article Abstract:
The currency crises suffered by the East Asian region is a result of 20 years of simultaneous occurrences of waves of currency and banking crises. Most of these countries have contracted gross domestic product valuation of five to 12%. The Asian regional crisis has developed into a deep recession for most of the affected countries. Economic imbalance is supported by the fact that their western counterparts have stabilized financial variables. This is perhaps the proper time to reassess the economic dimensions of financial crises.

Regional trading blocs: will East Asia be next?
Article Abstract:
Evidence of strong regional economic integration points towards the possible formation of a regional trading bloc in East Asia. A study of the political economy of state action and the evaluation of capital flows, particularly Foreign Direct Investment, will determine the feasibility of an economic bloc in the region. An East Asian trading bloc with both regional and international trading divisions is an appealing proposition for many countries in the region. Possible hurdles in its formation are discussed.

How severe is global retaliation risk under increasing regionalism?
Article Abstract:
The polarization of various countries into regional trading blocs has fueled speculations regarding possible trade hostilities between countries. History has shown that a period of trade cooperation are usuallt followed by hostilities. Moreover, studies made by Jagdish Bhagwati and Paul Krugman have established a link using policy analysis. However, these assertions are not supported by trade literature and were based on data from the 1930s.
