Educational attainment and the rural-urban divide in China
Article Abstract:
A comparative analysis of rural and urban education in China is undertaken using results of a 1988 national household sample survey conducted by Chinese authorities. Results of analysis show that there is a great disparity between educational opportunities existing in rural areas and those in the cities. In fact, geographical location comes out as important a factor as income level, family background and age in educational attainment. There is therefore a need for increasing public funding for education in rural areas.

Human capital in economic development
Article Abstract:
The relation between education and economic development has become a favorite research topic in economics because of several factors. Among these are: the popular concept that education is actually human investment and capital, the preponderance of reliable data particularly in developing nations, the observable link between East Asian economic growth and education, the emergence of new theories of economic growth and the link between education and other determinants such as health and social relationships.
