Higher education and progressive taxation: equity, efficiency and majority voting
Article Abstract:
A study is made on the appropriate combination of contributions in the form of taxes and fees used to finance higher education. The study makes use of a two-period model wherein individuals in a cohort are allowed to invest in higher education for the first period. Also considered in the study are the interdependencies between the choice of education and the tax system. The studyreveals that a government will ably satify the voting majority by allowing an optimal lower level of funding.

Income and commodity taxes in a two-good, two-period model with heterogeneous preferences
Article Abstract:
Tax structures in a two-period, two-good model that allow for endogenous labor supplies are analyzed. The model specifies the joint distribution of wage rates facing individuals in each period and the joint distribution of the different preference parameters employed. Distributional grounds for the use of a selective consumption tax and income tax when a social welfare function displaying inequality aversion is maximized, are indicated by the model.
