In Fashion the Name Is the Game
Article Abstract:
The effects of licensing, the practice by established fashion designers of contracting to companies the manufacturing and marketing of their clothing in return for a three to ten percent royalty, on the international fashion industry are explored. Christian Dior and other French designers who comprise the Chambre Syndicate de la Couture Parisienne, a trade group, are growing increasingly uneasy about licensing and the inherent loss of name exclusivity. Reactions of other designers are given. The current status and outlook of designer licensing in th United States, Japan, and Western Europe are assessed.

The Economic Power Game
Article Abstract:
The concept of long run marginal-cost pricing as related to utilities is explored. It is believed impossible to implement this theory because of the difficulty in calculating future energy costs. Economic and political factors to be considered are discussed. The effects of deregulation of utilities in the United States and Great Britain are mentioned. More competition may result in utility prices more closely reflecting long-run marginal costs.
