Intraregional foreign investment in East Asia
Article Abstract:
Market integration via intraregional foreign direct investment (FDI) has been taking place in East Asia even without formal agreements to this effect. The East Asian region, with the exception of Japan, accounts for over 50% of all FDI directed towards developing countries. The Japanese continue to be principal players in FDI, although newly industrialized economies in the region are increasing their investment activities rapidly. To lesser extent, Southeast Asian economies and China are also emerging as active investors.

Exchange rates in the East Asian crisis
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the history of exchange rate regimes in East Asia. The study examined whether the exchange rate regimes were a cause of the Asian economic crisis and whether the crisis would have been realized under alternative exchange rate regimes. The possibility of developing economies emerging from the crisis with stronger financial systems was also discussed. In addition, the association between the recovery process and the exchange rate regime was analyzed.
