The home office/small office market for PC software is expected to reach 279 million pounds sterling in 1996. The PC software market is no longer a specialist sector and includes packages written specifically for home users, such as educational, leisure and practical applications. The dominant operating system for the sector is Microsoft's Windows 95, accounting for more than 20% of operating system sales during 1995 and set to reach 62% in 1996. It is forecast that PC software sales for domestic and small office users will reach 408 million pounds sterling by 2000.

The UK consumer software market is continuing to grow, with PC penetration amounting to 33% of households in 1998, against 28% in 1995. The UK is second to Germany in the share of Europe's consumer software market. PC games make up the largest sector of the UK's consumer software market with a 72% share by volume and just under 65% by value, although leisure and education is the fastest growing sector. It is estimated that the consumer PC software market in the UK will be worth 430 million pounds sterling in 1998, set to rise to 496 million pounds sterling by 2002.

Demand for computer security grows with Saudi IT market
Article Abstract:
The increase in the use of computers and other data communication systems in Saudi Arabia is fueling a demand for computer protection and security systems. A market study, conducted by the US and Foreign Commercial Service in the country, is projecting further substantial growth in the computer security market that is already estimated at approximately $50 million annually. The growth is expected to come from decentralization from mainframes to client-server systems.
