Article Abstract:
The Index of Small Business Optimism of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) recorded national growth in excess of 4% for the first quarter of 1998 for the small business sector. Owners foresee an unfavorable prospect for economic growth based on the current Asian economic crisis. Sales gains were posted to have doubled in the 4th quarter with a net 9% of companies reporting sales over the past 3 months. About 16% of all firms expressed difficulty in acquiring skilled or unskilled labor.
