Saudi Arabia has to tackle a number of problems, such as too few trained workers and lack of consumer knowledge, before the development of electronic commerce can progress. Saudi Arabian Oil Co. is one firm which is trying to fully implement electronic commerce in its business dealings.

Issues concerning the use of the Internet and electronic commerce in Arab countries are discussed. It is estimated only 5% of people living in Arab countries will be making use of the Internet by 2003, compared to more than 70% in the US.

A review of the information technology industry in Turkey is presented. It is predicted some 25% of small to medium businesses in Turkey will have spent money on information technology, with around 1.5 million people using the Internet.
