Swimming Against the Current
Article Abstract:
At the recent congress of Italy's Christian Democrats, Ciriaco de Mita won fifty-seven per cent the vote. De Mita favors a freer market economy, government austerity and is pro-American. He advocates reform of the Christian Democratic party, which suffers from archaic organization and intense in-fighting. De Mita hopes to attract greater numbers of middle class voters to the Christian Democrats.
