World economy
Article Abstract:
There have been apparently positive developments in the world economy in Mar 1999, with signs of recovery in Japan and elsewhere in Asia, especially South Korea. Stock prices have risen to record levels in some markets. There is still cause for concern from factors such as rising petroleum prices, which could contribute to inflation. There is also concern about the US investment and consumer boom, funded by borrowing, with weak investment and high savings levels outside the US. A correction of this imbalance could be painful for all concerned.
