A-team in the record books; success of the Open University's social science foundation course
Article Abstract:
An Open University social science course 'Society and Social Science' has signed up 10,000 students for 1993. The methods and materials used by the Open University (OU) are varied, given that students may have no formal academic qualifications and study at home, helped by part-time tutors. The OU team produced 16 television programmes, 16 radio programmes, readers and audio-cassettes, all of which have to last eight years because of the expense of production. This social science package took four years to make.

United appeal for a no zone
Article Abstract:
The question of whether United Nations forces in Croatia should be removed is discussed. Peacekeeping troops are of the opinion that they should either step in more forcefully in an attempt to stop the fighting, or pull out completely. The troops are currently facing a variety of obstacles, including lack of manpower, lack of equipment, and uncoordination. It is also suggested that ceasefire agreements fail to account for local conditions.
