A treasure island easy to plunder
Article Abstract:
UK Minister for the Arts Mark Fisher is considering the granting of export licences for three works of art but is in the meantime hoping that British buyers will match the prices offered by foreign buyers. Art objects that are of exceptional scholarly, aesthetic or historical importance may not initially be granted an export licence on the recommendation of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art. The licence will be granted if no British buyer is found, however. Sellers may lose money through such deferrals.
