V-cs say jobs will go if staff vote 'no'

Vice-chancellors have warned that the growing campaign against the 13.1 percent higher education pay offer could lead to more academic job losses. Concerns grew among vice-chancellors as the campaign to persuade lecturers to reject the offer was bolstered by a rally of over 200 union activists in London.

Morale boost bid backfires

Sheffield Hallam University has brought in an external mediator to attempt to boost morale after relations in the law department reached a record low. However, the move to bring in Dr Liz Rick, former senior staff member at the university, has caused disquiet and suspicion among some staff.
