Gordon Brown's plans for a single unified fund for UK health research will be abandoned, fuelling anxiety about the Treasury's intervention in science. senior medical community figures are now expecting the Chancellor to announce a focus on patient-based research but many are worried that the Treasury may raid the basic research coffers to fund the initiative.

Trust brings UKPd2m boost
