City plans 'corporate' overhaul of executive

City University plans to drastically reduce the size of its governing and decision-making bodies, in what David Rhind, the university's vice-chancellor, claims are amongst the most radical governance reforms yet seen in the higher education sector. The university plans to reduce its governing body to six members, vs 21 at present, reduce its ruling senate to 30 staff members from 47 and halve eight other senior committees.

Science gets a tsar but no new protection
Article Abstract:
The government hs appointed John Holman as the first national director for science, technology, engineering and maths (Stem) and will lead a group which will coordinate measures to improve teaching and support in struggling science subjects. Holman is director of the National Science Learning Centre.
