The global economy should show urgency in shifting its dependence on rapidly depleting supplies of oil to renewable, clean-burning hydrogen instead of being rest assured that the transition can be gradually implemented over the next 40 to 50 years. The risk can be wisely anticipated and mitigated by the implementation of an immediate 'quantum jumpE into energy conservation and hydrogen development.

The drawbacks of corn-based ethanol as the answer to America's energy problems are discussed. It is argued that U.S. policymakers must be honest and practical in formulating a national energy policy that would decrease reliance on imported oil.
