Enabling technologies
Article Abstract:
Information technology departments, within UK universities, should provide some support for disabled students and staff, as part of their operational plans. It is likely the government will introduce new rules to ensure students with disabilities are given IT support. Students were not covered by from rules regarding discrimination because of disability. Some universities may have to revise their IT provision to fulfill the new laws. It is estimated around 10% of all students are disabled. Access to IT can be particularly helpful to students who suffer from disabilities.

Pettiness, possession, petulance and pride
Article Abstract:
Access to information technology should be equal for all university academics and students and not controlled by budget holders. Computers should be readily available and as up-to-date as possible. Access to technology is is arbitrary and unfair in many establishments. Students often do not have sufficient access to computers, in order to produce the level of work necessary for their courses. Usage of specialized machines should be restricted for certain projects. Access to computers, in UK universities, is currently based on social standing rather than need.
