Silicon scripts set the scene for pioneers of digital design
Article Abstract:
The Glasgow University School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland, have joined with Alias Wavefront and Silicon Graphics to open a digital design studio. The studio has three main areas of work, in research, training and education. Silicon Graphics have produced the hardware for the project along with Alias Wavefront which has supplied the tools, such as its Maya 3D design tool. Senior Lecturer Ian Johnson suggests the MPhil students undertaking a two year course at the studio, will be able to take advantage of research projects in progress at the studio.

How to teach students to communicate
Article Abstract:
Anglia Polytechnic University, Cambridge, England, has developed the Speak-Write project in its English department. The university has found the classes particularly apt for mature students who have already developed some oral skills in their former places of work. The Speak-Write scheme includes teaching students how to make oral presentations and they are able to use role-play to study poor oral skills. The project uses writing exercises to test students grasp of writing skills taught through academic study.
