Fiction friction
Article Abstract:
The 29 winners of the Booker prize for Commonwealth and Irish fiction comprises an impressive list of authors, despite the usual derision of prize winners by some critics. It is surprising that some authors make the shortlist while other apparently superior authors are ignored, however. Some judges express regret at being swayed by other judges' strong views on certain novels, with some judges resigning when their choices fail to be shortlisted. Other judges change their minds too readily, which indicates their lack of literary conviction.
