Freedom of thought, it's your God-given right
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the Muslim tradition of ijtihad, or independent thinking and creative reasoning, that thrived in the Muslim world from the 8th to the 12th centuries but which was clamped down on as a result of political pressure. It is argued that, as a result of ijtihad, debate and reform is an integral part of the Muslim faith, it is the duty of Muslims to question teachings, no matter whom they come from, that they believe to be wrong.
