Get medieval with al-Qaida
Article Abstract:
Issues relating to the suggestion that in order to combat groups such as al-Qaida, or to combat disease and computer viruses, we should follow the example of the Inquisition in its fight against heresy and learn the secret of 'scale-free' networks are examined. It is suggested that the strategy the Inquisition developed, of targeting highly connected individuals, such as messengers and guides, and removing them from the equation should be of particular interest to those trying to deal with any type of network, be it terrorist or computer, but the challenge is to develop these tactics in the modern world without resorting to the same level of cruelty and repression.

Why family ties bind the nation
Article Abstract:
The institution of marriage is an important factor behind social stability and the state should implement policy changes to encourage people to marry and to remain married. Divorce can have an adverse impact on children, while also leading to wider social costs such as the cost of deviant behaviour by the products of broken homes. Stable families are also an important source of care for the elderly. The state should support marriage by changes in tax and benefit policies, by making divorce more difficult and by restoring the idea of responsibility in the marriage contract.
