Diploma pitched to tackle skill gap
Article Abstract:
The U.K. Government is urging universities to support and ensure the success of diplomas for 14- to 19-year-olds to be launched in 2008 in an effort to increase the number of students entering higher education. The diplomas, offering a combination of academic and practical learning, are expected to encourage young people to continue schooling after the age of 16 to help meet the U.K.'s skills needs.

Threat to medical schools as health budgets slashed
Article Abstract:
Health budget cuts are threatening the stability of medical schools already facing dwindling staff numbers. This budget slash would have a direct impact on the future quality of medical education and the viability of medical schools, since they would be unable to provide satisfactory education and training to students without adequate funding.
