Heart-felt prayers
Article Abstract:
Research is being undertaken in the US to determine the power of prayer in healing coronary patients. Religious groups will pray for a group of 600 heart bypass patients but not for a second similar group, with participants not knowing to which group they have been assigned. Another group of 600 will know they are being prayed for to determine the psychological impact. The two-year research project is being funded by charitable organisation The John Templeton Foundation and will be conducted as a controlled experiment. Previous disputed research implies patients who are prayed for heal better than those who are not.

Let there be Darwin
Article Abstract:
Authors of books popularising the latest scientific developments frequently make mistakes when they reflect on the supposed theological implications of the scientific findings. The idea that evolution by natural selection makes nonsense of the Genesis account of Adam and Eve is far from the truth. Evolutionary theory actually provides an explanation for the doctrine of original sin in Genesis in that survival has depended on an innate tendency to behave in a self-centred way. Furthermore, St Augustine formulated a kind of evolutionary theory as long ago as the fourth century.
