Hyped text in context
Article Abstract:
The Internet is seen by some as a threat to the print media. However, the Internet is expensive in terms of accessing services. Users must have writing skills, and consequently be more aware of grammar and vocabulary. The Internet can contribute to resources available for those who use information, but will not replace the printed word. Books give many people pleasure as beautiful objects. Newspapers provide diversity and pre-selection, thus saving time editing raw data. The Internet includes material which is not useful, and which must be edited.

Citation takes fast track to a dead end
Article Abstract:
There are problems involved in citing the Internet as an academic source. Readers should be able to check and verify sources but the instability of electronic information means that this is not always possible. Providers and hackers can alter information, and many documents are not left on the system permanently. This can create problems for teaching across the Internet. There may be ways of tackling the problem but existing technology means that the Net provides information but does not serve as a citation.

When words are not enough
Article Abstract:
Students seek clear language and a good format and design from their textbooks. Production costs are higher in the US than the United Kingdom, and a lot of money is invested in the design of textbooks. The large US market helps support such an investment, but the industry has also becom concentrated, with five groups dominating the textbook publishing market. There have been improvements in the UK in the 1990s, as is shown by business studies textbooks.
