Article Abstract:
The outbreak of SARS in 2003 resulted in the closure of all schools and universities in Hong Kong from 29 March to 22 April but teachers and students were told to wear face masks, though these became impractical for teachers. No new cases of SARS were discovered among students after the re-opening of schools and universities but precautions continued to be taken until Hong Kong was declared free of SARS on 23 June.

Research by the European Science Union suggests policymakers should not rely on the trappings of identity politics that derides the political in the search for a supposedly warm feeling of unity, and instead should develop political projects for which people are willing to work together.
