Ruth Deech, head of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator, student complaints ombudsman, has told the international plagiarism conference that universities were unfair to students because punishments and procedures in plagiarism cases varied between, and also within, institutions. The inconsistencies leave institutions vulnerable to legal action.

UCU to back older academics who feel 'superfluous'

A 'majority' of academics aged 50 and above feel 'undervalued' and also 'often superfluous', according to a survey by the University and College Union (UCU). Sally Hunt, joint general secretary at UCU, will call for more support for older workers at the upcoming Trades Union Congress.
