Joe Brownlie's, professor of veterinary pathology and infectious diseases at the Royal Veterinary College, London, career has been spent hunting down animal viruses and then unearthing vaccines to treat them. Professor Brownlie was one of four scientists who advised the Government's Foresight report on potentially threatening infectious diseases.

Drawing passion from the crowds
Article Abstract:
The Art Fund, in the first comprehensive study of museum collecting, has said that social inclusion has damaged museums. Pressure from the government to make musems more appealing to a wider audience through education programmes and other projects has been detrimental to museums, with most giving up collecting.

Outlook bleak for scum of the Earth

In 1964 chemist James Lovelock stuck out to establish himself as an independent scientist and now prospers from doing experiments which have too much health and safety paperwork for institutional laboratories. He developed the Gaia hypothesis in the 1970s and has now written a book about Gaia.
